Smile as you enter

Having previously worked for this family on a bathroom, ensuite and downstairs loo, I knew their style and pushed this design to be more impactful than usual. Their input at the survey stage was quite minimal, and they were quietly content with 'leaving it to me'. I always enjoy this, as when these images were presented to them, it was exactly the reaction I sought; the plan would be to mirror this reaction as they entered the finished room. The plan worked.

This room certainly has the 'wow' factor. From the moment you walk in, the intricate smart lighting drapes you in appropriate shades to suit all your moods. Strong masculine features and bold colours matched with glorious three-metre high ceilings, all create a stylish, moody space to enjoy. Time to get naked.

Wall Drapes.

A classy marble theme runs throughout this grand, 140-year-old building of six luxury apartments. I proposed to continue this in the main bathroom along with a hard-hitting, dark and dramatic feature wall. It was a bold choice and oddly the very first tile I suggested to the clients having seen it months prior, and bookmarking it for intended future use. Once both these porcelain wraps were decided, it tiled the way to select other complimenting components of this impressive space.

Luxurious Features

The fluted glass is a beautiful design element. Classy and functional it oozes 'hotel' styling, inviting you to enjoy it. Black brassware provides that moody and masculine feel that compliments that unique tubular towel radiator.

The double vanity area is a setting to bask in it's design. Intricate tiling and trim-work with the lit mirror cabinets set into our stud wall, give that flush, sleek look. The 1400mm double unit is an exquisite dark blue, with fluted drawer fronts to give a nod to the shower glass. Solid topper, two-tone basons and proud tall taps make these stations simply lovely to use.

LVT flooring in a calm design providing only a slight glimmer of silver/grey - gives just enough feature to the room without a sensory overload!

The toilet area offers a boast in thoughtful design and execution with carefully folded metal trim work providing visual perfection, and smooth edges when cleaning. A practical space on top for your nick-nacks, and then a nice wall hung brush, and recessed tissue holder. There's a lot of trust involved when your contractor fits a wall-hung toilet. No call-backs to date!

Perfect Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood of any space. It's always a very important aspect of our projects and is given a lot of thought.

Having no natural lighting in this room, every visitor has to be provided with adequate, time and mood-sensitive illumination. For luxury projects we use Philips Hue lighting. The five GU10 bulbs overhead provide warm yellow to cold white lighting fully customizable and automated. The sensor upon entry activates one of ten different modes that the user creates to personalise lighting throughout the day and night. Which means a visitor at 3am can enter to a soft lighting of three of the bulbs, warm shade, at 25% illumination. Worth noting for sleepy, forgetful, (or teenage) users, all the lighting can be set to turn off if no motion is detected for a pre-determined number of minutes. Of course users can manually control everything via the smart dimmer dial on the wall, which also has programmable buttons to cycle modes.

As well as the main functional lighting the mood lighting was always going to be a prominent feature. Again, using Philips Hue the mood lights are from their colour range. As well as the warm-to-cool whites, every colour and blend of colours imaginable, including saturation can be created. As if all this wasn't enough, The app offers seemingly limitless 'scenes' of cityscapes and various pre-designed palettes - many that cycle through their modes giving the room even more intrigue. All of these can be added, played with, saved and used in a routine, or a button choice.

Finishing Touches

I take a great deal of pride in the responsibility that every square inch of our project space is my responsibility to make it the best it can be. Care, attention to detail, quality and durability in a design, and it's application, are simply our standard practice. Our reputation is paramount. Our personal touch is ever-present, and our presence in your home is thoughtful and respectful.

Conclusion

This space was part of a bigger project that included a master ensuite, and luxury kitchen. This ultra-modern bathroom makeover is a perfect example of how we blend functionality with style, class with harmony, and pander to every mood. A lot of thought and planning go into our projects. What could we make of yours?

We hope this transformation inspires you to elevate your own project space. Stay tuned for more renovation projects and design tips on our blog.
