During the design process of this particular kitchen I had a lot of design-freedom. It was enjoyable to pursue aspects and ideas that the owner really got on board with and approved. I had an initial idea of a recessed, flush, chilled wine holder that I'd seen at a home exhibition show, but the model with led lighting was well over a thousand pounds, each. Not only that, with no bottle in them they looked a little odd like a random hole. Not being mainstream and recognisable a guest would have been forgiven for trying to put recycling down it. At that money, I shelved the idea in search of something else.
I found a company that made drinks troughs for under-mount applications that looked good but it was still really expensive for what it was. Instead I sought out half, single undermount sinks and found the perfect product. As it was a 'normal' product it was reasonably priced. Being too small on it's own I opted for two which was still reasonable cost. Martin the customer loved the idea and so we added it to the spec. The solid-surface fabricators were informed of the additions and we sited them behind the main sink. The concept is with the place-over lids they became virtually un-noticeable, but come party nights - they can hold a selection of bottled beers in one side and wine in the other! Coupled with the led colour-changing ice cubes to mingle amongst the real ones makes it even more fun! Everyone involved loved the vision, and they are a worthy mention in our 'Bespoke' section of our site!
