The best bespoke kitchens are often defined by the features you never expected to find.
This kitchen just kept evolving. Each visit seemed to bring another idea, another feature and another opportunity to make something special. Working with a client who shared the same enthusiasm for detail meant the specification continued to grow, with every addition enhancing an already exceptional kitchen.
One of the final features was a bespoke housing for a Sonos subwoofer, making use of an otherwise unused cavity within the bespoke breakfast bar. Rather than leaving the space hidden behind decorative panels, it became an opportunity to create a discreet audio feature that integrates seamlessly into the overall kitchen design while adding another layer of functionality.
Transforming unused space into a feature
The housing was carefully constructed using matching panels and offcuts left over from the original kitchen installation. This not only made efficient use of materials already available on site, but also ensured the finished housing looked as though it had always been part of the original kitchen rather than an afterthought.
It is often these opportunities, spotted during a project rather than drawn on the original plans, that make a bespoke kitchen feel truly individual.
A concealed audio solution
Although the finished feature appears effortless, careful planning was required throughout.
Immediately alongside the housing sit an integrated wine cooler together with concealed power supplies and mood lighting cables. Every cut and fixing had to be positioned precisely to avoid existing services while maintaining the clean, uninterrupted appearance expected throughout the kitchen.
One carefully concealed joint was positioned where it would naturally disappear behind the cabinetry, preserving the seamless finish of the installation.
The location of the Sonos subwoofer was equally important. Housed within the breakfast bar, it naturally projects sound into the room from either side, providing impressive audio performance while remaining completely integrated within the surrounding cabinetry.
Smart lighting completes the feature
A bespoke project is rarely about a single element.
To complete the installation, a recessed Philips Hue smart light was incorporated above the housing, allowing the feature to become part of the kitchen's wider lighting scheme.
Whether creating subtle evening lighting, setting the mood for entertaining or synchronising with music and television through Philips Hue Sync, the feature becomes part of the atmosphere of the room rather than simply somewhere to house a speaker.
Designed around the client, not the catalogue
Some of the best bespoke features aren't on the original drawings. They're discovered during the build when an unused space becomes an opportunity.
Rather than hiding the available cavity, it became another carefully integrated detail that contributes to the personality of the kitchen while maintaining the clean, contemporary finish found throughout the rest of the project.
It is another example of how bespoke projects often come from recognising opportunities that standard kitchen designs simply overlook.
It became one more carefully considered feature within a kitchen already full of thoughtful details. Individually they might seem small. Together they create a space that feels genuinely bespoke.
