It all starts with imagination.
Over in Handsworth Wood, this mother/daughter combo had a dream to finally turn the bathroom into their unique sanctuary. The room was in a very poor state and had endured numerous sub-standard make-overs. Cold, damp and bleak were the first and lasting impressions.
Relatively quiet at first, I was given only a few ‘wants’ by them and left to create what I thought it needed. The downstairs loo was also to be bolted to this project. They wanted colour, and vibrance. After making safe the glass door that had fallen off, I bid them adieu, and headed off to start creating my digital vision.
I created a bold, impactful design for them, and they loved it straight away. Designs take time and a lot of thought to creating a space that firstly, is possible, then is usable, and finally, that looks amazing.
Upon starting, the dynamic-duo had been surfing the web hard and had a list (a long list) of all the changes and additions they wanted to incorporate. It was nice to see so much enthusiasm coupled with bold style choices that suited them. I see a lot of 'playing safe'. After ongoing meetings as the project unfolded, we set about creating exactly what they imagined, or maybe better.
It wasn't straightforward by any means. A surprise section of dormant chimney breast in the new shower section revealed itself like a forehead-spot on date-night. We couldn't remove all of it, as it would have made a significant mess of the hallway and neighbouring bedroom. In the end the minimal section of boxing actually helped 'recess' the towel radiator quite nicely.

Another example of project-management, ordering certain key elements as you go and keeping the project on track when surprises happen. A fraction smaller tray than originally planned was agreed and ordered, and an adjustment on glass size, and it was soon back on track and on to the next (problem)!
All the walls harboured two layers of tiles, and the external two were taken back to bare brick. The double-boarded ceiling obscured a nest of wires and pipework for this room, and the loft conversion above so all works had to be completed from underneath. It all had to come down to mapping out the copious joist work so we could set out the fan and lights placement, as well as running all the new pipework and cabling. The floor was a similar story and all had to come up to be replaced with new, flat, solid planks to build this on. The draughty vents were covered, and those two outer walls were lined with PIR insulated plasterboard. A powerful inline fan was installed, working via a separate, timed touch-switch, and we even arranged new double-glazing units to replace the 'blown' ones.
Reflection.
Overall, the bathroom design achieves a contemporary, yet soothing aesthetic that combines high-end, functional design with natural materials and a relaxed atmosphere.
The brushed bronze fittings ooze class and is something really different.
Bath and vanity by Lusso, Japanese-style smart toilet by Grohe, everything sourced and managed by us with customers ongoing input throughout.
The outcome boasts a modern and minimalist style that combines sleek design elements with a sense of warmth and natural textures. The use of clean, simple lines in the furniture, such as the floating white vanity unit, with tasteful under-lights, creates a dash of modern, and airy feel. The freestanding bathtub adds a touch of luxury, offering a focal point that enhances the overall calm ambiance of the space.
The earthy tones of the green tiled walls add depth and texture, complementing the LVT floor that balances the more modern elements with a natural, organic vibe. This is further accented by the strategic use of plant life, (foliage forever!) both on the floating shelves and along any appropriate surface, which brings a sense of life to the room and adding that touch of nature.
The clever use of light plays a key role in the bathroom's welcoming atmosphere. The warm light under the vanity unit creates a soft glow, enhancing the space without overpowering the rest of the room. The large mirror above the sink reflects the light, making the space feel even larger and more open.
As if we didn't have enough fun upstairs, the downstairs needed us too!
Always awkward spaces to photograph I didn't notice the lit mirror wasn't turned on!
Complimenting style and a fitting finish to this space. Remember - It's how visitors judge you!
